One of the most representative brands in the vintage eyewear world, AMERICAN OPTICAL, the No. 1 manufacturer in the United States at the time,
had released the ultra-rare model TOP SECRET, whose existence was confirmed for the first time in over a decade, as a brand new top-grade deadstock item. The design is similar to AO's popular model Manhattan at the time, with a rugged inside front that acts as a nose pad while being integrated into the frame. The design itself is slightly deeper than Manhattan, with the bottom part made more square and incorporating elements of a horn rim that makes the armor protrude. The minimalist and stoic appearance without any hinges embodies the exemplary finish of American Wellington. The no-hinge Wellington shape is made of top-quality black fabric that was clearly a cut above the rest of the US manufacturers at the time, and its sharp, crisp, and sophisticated US vintage look speaks volumes about America at the time. The beautifully balanced silhouette and highly sought-after compact size 44/23, the highest quality brand new deadstock that has been meticulously maintained, and the black color that is most sought after by Japanese people, as well as its rarity beyond what you would expect from its simple appearance, and the extremely cool naming sense make this a very satisfying product internally.
