A fitting tribute to the pioneer of a new time-feel. Shinola is honored to present the J Dilla Great American Series Runwell Chronograph, a timepiece meticulously designed and crafter to pay homage to the most influential music-maker and hip-hop producer of all time.

Limited to 500 pieces, this Rnuwell Chronograph features a cassette tape-inspired window that exposes the transparent chronograph eye discs and movement inside. The multi-layered dial, colored accents, and gold indexes with custom caseback have each been customized with a Dilla Time graphic treatment, reflecting his groundbreaking rhythmic sensibility.  This timepiece is completed with an '8 Bar' embossed navy leather strap with a purple lining.

Shinola is proud to honor J Dilla, our next Great American, with two new timepieces celebrating his legacy as a hip-hop legend and Detroit native.


Movement - The high-accuracy quartz movement - hand-assembled in Detroit with 79 components - drives the hours, minuted, sub-second dials, chronograph and date window with precision.

Argonite 5021.D

Dial - Dial details pay tribute to Dilla's influence on music as we know it - from the Dilla Time inspired tracking to the transparent sub-eye discs. The stripe indexes and hour and minute hands feature Super-LuminNova.

Casette Inspired Window

The polished stainless steel case features a classic pumpkin crown and double-domed sapphire crystal. The custom caseback is adorned with a signature Dilla Time graphic and the watch's individual serial number.

This premium leather strap in navy features eight embossed bars that represent the rhythmic sections found in music. Flip it over and reveal a purple underside with purple stitching.

Limited Edition Packaging

  1. Clear Acrylic Box - Fittingly packaged in a custom commemorative box, crafted from clear acrylic in homage to the cassette tape. 
  2. Dial Reveal Window - Slide off the outer blue sleeve to reveal the cassette-inspired window dial. 
  3. Commemorative Card - Accompanied by a storybook insert that commemorates the achievements of J Dilla written by Dan Chamas, author of Dilla Time.
