CARE

Blade:
Apply a thin coat of protective oil after each use. Wipe clean of dirt, water, and fingerprints regularly. Use a medium to fine file to straighten out any larger dings or nicks in the blade. The edge can be honed with a medium sharpening disk or stone.

Sheath:
Waxed canvas should never be dry cleaned or machine washed. It can be cleaned carefully by hand. Brush off the loose dirt, rinse the surface with cold water, gently scrub with a brush, then let air dry. If stains persist, use mild bar soap or saddle soap.

After cleaning, waxed canvas may need to be re-waxed. To do so, use a wax conditioner and apply following the manufacturer's instructions.

THE MATERIALS

Just two materials make up our No. 6 Field Knife: Japanese SK5 full-tang steel and durable walnut. Heat-treated, high-carbon SK5 steel is tough and retains its edge, making it an ideal knife for camp and field use. Black oxide coating protects the blade from rust and moisture, allowing the knife to do its job time and time again. Dense and impact-resistant, walnut is a highly prized hardwood perfect carved as a handle. The warm and rich color complements its steel counterpart to create a beautiful implement.

The included sheath consists of 900D polyester with an interior liner. 900D polyester is weather-resistant, easy to clean, and mold- and mildew-resistant. It truly weathers real-world use. The stainless steel belt clip supports easy carrying and accessibility, while the strong leather handle strap restricts the blade from slipping or moving.

THE INSPIRATION

This was the first knife ever to go through Barebones’ production, and it will always be an employee favorite. It is an outdoor knife inspired by both technical hunting knives and everyday camp knives. A nod towards the vintage camp tool used by mountain men for just about everything, its simple design imparts a timeless look and feel.

THE DESIGN

Anyone that spends ample time in the outdoors deserves a solid utilitarian knife. Our goal was to develop a design-forward, use-it-for-everything alternative to what exists on the market today. Less flashy than its tech-driven competitors, the Field Knife excels at everyday outdoor tasks: cutting, shaping, chopping, and whittling. A classic recurve blade, the s-shape doubles back on itself with a kickback near the handle. We love this time-tested and trusted shape.
